SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

This scholarship is to be given to Lutheran Youth Organization members of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, La Grange, TX. The recipients must meet certain requirements set forth by the LYO Scholarship Committee. This is a scholarship to be earned based upon requirements; this is not a gift.

The purpose of the St. Paul ELCA, La Grange, TX, Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) Scholarship is to assist LYO members beginning their higher education and to recognize outstanding commitment, dedication and participation in and to the Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO). Scholarship value will be distributed among qualified applicants based on funds available.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for a non-renewable St. Paul ELCA, La Grange, TX, Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) Scholarship, the LYO member must:

1. be an active member of St. Paul ELCA, La Grange, TX, and an active LYO member by maintaining 50% attendance at worship services, Sunday School, and LYO activities for all eligible years of LYO;

2. participate in the scholarship dinner by, each eligible year, selling a minimum number of tickets as set by the committee’s needs for the year, and by working a minimum of 1 hour at the dinner;

3. complete the St. Paul ELCA, La Grange, TX, Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) Scholarship Application, and meet the application deadline; and

4. attend the college, university, or trade school of his/her choice the fall semester of his/her high school graduating year.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

LYO members will be given consideration for the scholarship when the following two items have been received by the LYO Scholarship Committee:

1. a complete application form; and

2. four years of LYO background material and information furnished by the LYO Director or Youth Director qualifying the LYO member for the scholarship.

3. The applicant will then be asked to write brief written responses to several faith based questions on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 9:15 - 10:30 a.m.

4. Also, the applicant will be asked to schedule a brief interview with the scholarship committee during the week of April 21, 2008.

5. At this point, the scholarship committee will review the application.

OPERATIONAL PROCEDURE:

The entire scholarship money will be awarded to the LYO member upon presentation of the current fall semester registration receipt to the church financial secretary.
